18+ only
Responsible gambling
Betting should only ever be entertainment, with money you can afford to lose. It is not a way to make money or to solve money problems.
Oddsplainer is for adults aged 18 and over. Our predictions are statistical estimates: no prediction, model or tip can guarantee a win, and over time most people who bet lose money.
Keep it fun
- Set a budget before you start and stick to it. Only bet money you can afford to lose.
- Set a time limit, and take regular breaks.
- Never chase losses. Accept them as the cost of your entertainment.
- Don't bet when you're upset, stressed, or have been drinking.
- Don't borrow money to gamble.
Warning signs
It may be time to stop, or to talk to someone, if you:
- spend more money or time gambling than you intended;
- gamble to win back money you've lost;
- hide your gambling from people close to you, or feel guilty about it;
- borrow money, sell things or miss bills because of gambling;
- feel anxious, irritable or low when you're not gambling.
Tools to stay in control
- Bookmaker limits. Bookmakers licensed in Great Britain must let you set deposit limits, take a time-out and self-exclude. Many also offer reality checks.
- GamStop. One free sign-up excludes you from all gambling websites and apps licensed in Great Britain for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years: gamstop.co.uk.
- Blocking software. Apps such as Gamban block gambling sites on your devices.
- Your bank. Many UK banks let you block gambling payments on your card from their app.
Free, confidential help
- National Gambling Helpline: 0808 8020 133, free, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- BeGambleAware.org — advice, self-assessment and support.
- GamCare — support and live chat.
- Gamblers Anonymous UK — peer support meetings.
Protecting under-18s
Gambling under 18 is illegal in the UK. If children use your devices, consider parental-control software and keep your bookmaker log-ins private.
